Hi everyone! 

I'm Mayim, and as you can probably guess I'm new here. I don't really know what to say here so I suppose I'll just say a few things about myself: 

• Biography: Lives in Montréal, from the United States, she/they pronouns, probably older than a lot of people here
• Interests: History, politics (doy), linguistics, music (esp. punk and hip hop), sh*tposting, religion (esp. Judaism), Scottish and Irish nationalisms
• Political alignment: Civil libertarian, economically anti-capitalist trash ideology

I look forward to getting to know all of you and getting involved! :) I suppose if anyone has questions or just wants to chat a bit, I'm receptive!

I do have one question, however - under my profile there's a bar that reads "Money" with a £ value. Is there a economic system employed here - and if so (1) what do we use pounds for here and (2) how would I go about acquiring any?

As you can see Mayim, some people just like to disrespect their superiors 

Apologies, but I have just installed the 'plugin' that caused that to appear like 10 minutes ago! We're going to be testing a regional economy. We have several RP businesses across the region that this can be used for. I have disabled it now - more info to come shortly!

It is the most Anglo city in Québec by a huge margin, but it's still majority Francophone (I think), so the French is not misplaced. I honestly need to get better at it...

As I am not from Canada nor Québec, I don't really have a dog in the Québec separatist fight. That said, on pure politics aside from that issue, QS is probably who I would vote for, and Anglophone friends of mine who share similar views to me voted QS in 2018 for this reason.

Particularly in the case of Ireland, I find that these two countries gained less from English rule (or in the case of Ulster, proto-colonization) than what was took from them in cultural or political terms. This is not to say that I necessarily hate England (and I loved visiting), but my reading of the history of these two countries with regards to England leads me to support their more nationalist inclinations. (In terms of ancestry my IRL last name is likely Scots-Irish, so there's a bit of that in my own history as well.) There are other nationalisms that I support, but these two are the closest to my heart and the politics surrounding them are politics I am most familiar with.

Scottish and Irish nationalism is a touchy subject to say the least, at least the Scots don't blow up their cars yet.

I was prone to quick temper in my youth, and was an Irish Nationalist/separatist, to my shame, but I grew as I got older and am now a Monarchist.

I'm less temper prone, but still ornery. :P

I guess the religious and cultural cleavage also help for this view. To my understanding, Ireland, Scotland and to a lesser extent Wales are more Celtic in culture, while England is more Germanic. And then there's the Catholic-Protestant divide, that is not as important as it once was (at least among Francophones in Canada it has lost all its importance) in Ireland.
I was indeed referring to QS in the social part of the party. They have their strength in outer Montréal and some zones of the island, and they are not so pro-independence as the PQ.

The cultures whose suppression was encouraged were overwhelmingly Celtic. Ireland of course has the religious divide, but I would say it played a small yet un-ignorable role in Scotland as well (seeing that the Jacobites, predominantly of Highland stock, were overwhelmingly Catholic.) Not sure how much religion plays a role in Welsh nationalism - the high percentage of Protestant nonconformists makes me curious about that. And yeah, Québec is culturally Catholic but not necessarily religiously Catholic, not since the Quiet Revolution. 

The riding right next to mine, Sainte-Marie--Saint-Jacques, is the home riding of the QS leader - meanwhile mine is hardline Liberal. It really shows the difference in politics on either side of Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
