An introduction and a couple of questions

Hello all! I recently refounded my nation, coincidentally also named The Maidas, and found the appeal of a UK-themed region to be enough that I thought to explore it on my second go-around in NationStates. I spent a brief period of time in Europeia, but real-life complications got in the way of active participation there; I'm hoping that I can force myself to put in more effort here. :P
A bit about The Maidas, the country - very much a work in progress, but envisioning it as sitting in the North Atlantic colonized by Huguenot refugees and Spanish conquistadores before being conquered bit by bit by the British Empire, thus trilingual and with a diverse population of European, African, and Asian settlers and immigrants. It's a federal republic of nine states sitting on a fairly mountainous archipelago atop converging North American, European, and African tectonic plates, this creating for somewhat chaotic politics and environmental patterns alike (though known for its temperate, Mediterranean-esque summers). That's about all I've got settled so far - I'm not sure if nation-based RP is explored much here, as it did not seem to be in Europeia, but figured this was worth mentioning.
A bit about The Maidas, the lady - I have a great interest in history, theology, politics, music, and linguistics, especially when these things can be explored together. This is probably why the UK and Ireland appeal to me to such a degree, although I am not from either country, as great events and advancements in all of these fields happened in and from this particular area of the world. I look forward to meeting you all and seeing where I may be able to get involved!
I'll leave off with a couple of questions for those more knowledgeable:
(1) Names. I notice, looking around, that a lot of folks here do not use their nation names or identifiable Internet-type usernames as their forum names, but rather use full, human names with surnames. Are these names of your country's leaders, or just a more general nom de plume?
(2) Money. I see that you get money for posting, but that the shop only offers coffee - is money used for other purposes here?

I think you've arrived at a wonderful time for discussion of the Shop and how we want to see it used, which you'll see floating around the Government and Parliament. If you've seen shops like this done well elsewhere or have thoughts about what might be cool, posting your thoughts in a public thread in a Whitehall-area forum, in Parliament, or even as a lower-pressure discussion in the Red Lion or #regional-politics on Discord could be a good move!
